WINNERS announced for the 2025 Virginia NWTF JAKES Essay Contest! Thank you to everyone who submitted an essay—we were truly blown away by the quality of writing, the heartfelt stories, and the amazing outdoor experiences that were shared. Reading each essay was an absolute joy, and choosing winners was no easy task!

The Virginia State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation continues to partner with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to fund habitat enhancement projects that contribute to healthier ecosystems throughout the Commonwealth.

On Sunday, Sept. 21st Virginia NWTF Leaders gathered at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland to draw the 13 Lucky 13 winners. We want to thank each and everyone of our ticket buyers for supporting our mission. And the winners are…..

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The Virginia NWTF State Chapter recently partnered with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Virginia Department of Forestry to establish native open field habitats on Jack Mountain within the Highland Wildlife Management Area. The project will create diverse habitats for wildlife and improve conditions for future habitat management efforts.

This Fall we are offering Winter Wheat.  The rate will be $12 per bag to participate.  All pertinent information is provided in the link to answer questions you may have.  Tentatively, the seed is scheduled to arrive in VA on August 5th.  Seed quantities are limited this year, and a total of 420 bags are available to our members on a first come first served basis.  Do not delay submitting your request.  Last fall all bags were claimed in just over a week!

On March 22nd at the National Capital Area Chapter of the NWTF banquet, Isabelle Morissette was presented with the chapters scholarship for $500. She was then surprised and presented with the VA State Chapter scholarship for $2500!

This Spring we are offering Round-Up Ready Corn ($45 per bag), Round-up Ready Soybeans ($25 per bag) and Grain Sorghum ($15 per bag). 

The JAKES essay contest for 2024 was very overwhelming for our five judges this past year. The number and quality of the essays really made it difficult to select our top 3 essays for each age bracket. The final scores were very close. And the winners are:

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The Virginia NWTF State Chapter recently met to review Hunting Heritage Super Fund project proposals for 2024 funding awards. After the reviewing and ranking process, proposals were presented to and approved by the Virginia State Chapter Super Fund Committee. The committee budgeted $211,300 for conservation projects, $98,000 for equipment and $42,950 for hunting heritage-related projects, including outreach-education events and chapter scholarships.
