EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The Virginia NWTF State Chapter recently partnered with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Virginia Department of Forestry to establish native open field habitats on Jack Mountain within the Highland Wildlife Management Area. The project will create diverse habitats for wildlife and improve conditions for future habitat management efforts.

This Fall we are offering Winter Wheat.  The rate will be $12 per bag to participate.  All pertinent information is provided in the link to answer questions you may have.  Tentatively, the seed is scheduled to arrive in VA on August 5th.  Seed quantities are limited this year, and a total of 420 bags are available to our members on a first come first served basis.  Do not delay submitting your request.  Last fall all bags were claimed in just over a week!

On March 22nd at the National Capital Area Chapter of the NWTF banquet, Isabelle Morissette was presented with the chapters scholarship for $500. She was then surprised and presented with the VA State Chapter scholarship for $2500!

The Virginia State Chapter Board of Directors is pleased to offer its members the opportunity to purchase several mixes at subsidized prices. Each member may purchase additional products in unlimited quantities at the NON-SUBSIDIZED prices listed on the order form. 

This Spring we are offering Round-Up Ready Corn ($45 per bag), Round-up Ready Soybeans ($25 per bag) and Grain Sorghum ($15 per bag). 

The JAKES essay contest for 2024 was very overwhelming for our five judges this past year. The number and quality of the essays really made it difficult to select our top 3 essays for each age bracket. The final scores were very close. And the winners are:

Put into writing a hunting or outdoor experience you participated in and how it made you feel, what the experience meant to you, how it will impact your life. Tell us your story.  Include a picture if you can. Please limit your writing to 500 words or less. Each essay must include this FORM.

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The Virginia NWTF State Chapter recently met to review Hunting Heritage Super Fund project proposals for 2024 funding awards. After the reviewing and ranking process, proposals were presented to and approved by the Virginia State Chapter Super Fund Committee. The committee budgeted $211,300 for conservation projects, $98,000 for equipment and $42,950 for hunting heritage-related projects, including outreach-education events and chapter scholarships.

Virginia NWTF has completed judging for their annual JAKES Youth Essay Contest for youngsters 17 years old and under. Here’s your chance to win some great cash prizes in three age categories. Each entrant wrote about a hunting or outdoor experience they participated in and the winners are:

Our Lucky 13 Sportsmen Raffle was another huge success! Thanks to everyone who sold tickets, purchased tickets and a huge thanks to Bass Pro Ashland for allowing us to hold our public drawing there. Lastly, congratulations to the 13 winners, and the additional four winners (because of the number of tickets that were sold.)

The NWTF VA State Chapter received word that a truckload of Winter Wheat will be deliverd on August 17 to the Rocky Mount location.  Distribution out to the various pick up location will happen the week of August 21 to 26 for pickup.  We will provide payment information on August 17 as soon as delivery is confirmed.
